Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
A standout performer in major events in her native New Zealand, co-trainer Debbie Rogerson is confident in a successful 2014 Spring Racing Carnival for talented stayer Costume; geared towards the featured Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18th.
Racing to a high standard over the 2013 spring and summer across the ditch, Costume contested a total of eleven starts, returning to the spelling paddock following a credible run for fourth in the Group 1 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Open (1600m) on April 5th.
Confirmed in the nominations list of 225 for the 2014 Caulfield Cup on Tuesday afternoon, Rogerson told TVN she is confident of standout maiden campaign in Australia for Costume after completing a strong barrier trial at Te Teko earlier this week.
“That was a super trial over 1200m by Costume on Tuesday,” Rogerson said.
“We’ll look to run her in the Foxbridge next weekend and then we will map a plan out for her after that.
“We have the Caulfield Cup in mind for her.”
Securing an impressive total of five wins and four minor places from just 19 competitive starts so far, Costume stamped her claims as one to watch from her maiden racing preparation through the summer of 2012; building in class and form on her way to a fighting fifth in the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) most notably.
Unlucky to be blocked for a run and fifth in the Ambitious Dragon FM (1200m) first-up on October 9th, the Savabeel mare again continued to build to the class on her way to fourth in the Group 2 Isuzu Stakes (1600m) and second in the Group 1 Thorndon Mile (1600m) before breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level of racing in the Group 1 Herbie Dyke Stakes (2000m) most notably on February 8th.
Yet to appear on an Australian race track, Costume is currently available at generous odds on $101 to win the 2014 Caulfield Cup with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
A standout performer over the 2014 Sydney Autumn Carnival, fellow kiwi Rising Romance is currently tied on the top line of betting for success in the 2014 Caulfield Cup with The Offer at odds of $15.
Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering all new punters the chance to claim a bonus bet of up to $250 which can be split up to four times!
