Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
This afternoon a dozen quality stayers will face off in the Darwin Cup 2014up the top end, betting tips from the Races.com.au team for the handicap clash detailed below.
Running as Race 9 at 5:40pm at Fannie Bay Racecourse, this year’s $200,000 Carlton Mid Darwin Cup (2000m) features a full line-up of 12 starters.
The Darwin Cup betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au are heating up and offer punters a stress free bet with your money back as a bonus wager up to $50 if your selection runs second or third this afternoon!
Current $4 favourite is market mover Smarty Mac, Dick Leech’s Akhadan seven-year-old having won the Chief Minister’s Cup two back.
Their last start was a second to The Ruffian over 1900m here, the step up in distance the challenge but the step down from 59kg to 54.5kg the plus.
They’re followed closely by one of two in the race for Victoria’s Neil Dyer, Cantonese ($5.50).
Also seven-years-old the Redoute’s Choice gelding was runner-up to Smarty Mac in the Chief Minister’s Cup before a third over the 1600m again here on July 26 in the Metric Mile.
Other single figure hopes then include Metric Mile winner Saturday Sorcerer ($7) and the Gary Clarke-trained Lightinthenite ($7.50) drawn well but carrying the 60kg top weight.
With so many livewire chances we’ve helped out providing our insider Darwin Cup tips for our readers to lock in at Ladbrokes.com.au.
#11 Gravitational ($9)
Gary Clarke’s Astronomer Royal four-year-old is a promising type with good form at the track having been transferred from Adelaide earlier this winter, they’ve had just the three runs for their new trainer and are showing good form including a mile win two back. Latest effort was a second in the NT Derby (2000m) at this track and distance, now they just have to handle the older horses. Distance non-issue and weight will help as they drop from 58kg to the 54kg minimum here.
#8 Royal Request ($8)
Tipping the form of the NT Derby and the youngsters this year to hold up and think they can repeat the quinella with their light weights. Neil Dyer’s other runner has a wide draw (barrier 11) to overcome but have run top three in their trio of Darwin runs this time in. Handled the distance last time out and love the track (5-3-2-0), if they step up again in class will be right in the finish.
#3 Cantonese ($5.50)
Stablemate of Royal Request, think they’ll be alongside their young buddy and running on for another top three Darwin run after finishing second in the Chief Minister’s, the form of which the bookies are tipping to stack up, and then third in the Metric Mile with the form of that race holding over the years.
Whether you’re backing or sacking our Darwin Cup selections make sure you place your risk free bet at Ladbrokes.com.au today where if you do your dough and run second or third they’ll help you out with a bonus bet up to $50!
