After getting washed out last Saturday, the rescheduled HG Bolton Sprint 2014 runs at Belmont Park Racecourse today and updated odds on the handicap clash are going off at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Scheduled as Race 8 at 4:10pm (local) the $100,000 Listed H.G. Bolton Sprint (1200m) featured its original 12-horse field until the early scratching of #9 Modello.
Clear favourite in the HG Bolton Sprint betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3 to win is the Grant Williams-trained Celebrity Miss.
She comes in from barrier three to two and will have Perth’s premier hoop William Pike in the saddle.
A five-year-old daughter of More Than Ready the Karnup-based mare won two on the trot at the track over the 1200m this winter before her last start fifth behind Pininci in the Listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m) on July 12.
She had a wide barrier (10 of 10) there and dropped back in distance so the step back up to 1200m from an inside alley for this afternoon has secured her favouritism.
The Belmont course is also back in the Slow-range and without any wet track form the firmer the better for the favourite.
Following Celebrity Miss in the HG Bolton Sprint odds at $5 is then Dominating (barrier five into four) who will be ridden by Brad Parnham on the 54kg minimum.
Neville Parnham’s Snitzel four-year-old won over 1400m here back in June before two close runs over 1600m when third to Tower Of Lonhro and then fourth over 1300m behind New Time this month.
They are down in distance again here so will need to be racing sharp, but do drop back notably in the weights from 59kg last time out.
Dominating also has two wins from four starts over the track and distance, but was seventh in their last attempt over 1200m at Belmont two months ago.
Also into $5 and equal second pick to win is then Hussy By Choice.
Simon Miller’s Hussonet mare is first-up here on the back of a fourth in a Lark Hill trial over 950m.
She was last seen running eighth in a Listed Bunbury race over 1400m back in March but has black-type winning form at Ascot over 1200m and an excellent first-up record with three wins from her four resuming runs so far.
A host of other single figure chances then flood the market with Dueton ($7.50), and the David Harrison-trained stablemates Pininci ($9) and Settle Strada ($9).
In the outside barrier for Ascot trainer Eric Wake, Due Sasso four-year-old Dueton is second-up here having run sixth in their resuming run in the Beaufine Stakes.
They’ve never won first-up but their second-up record is a beauty (4-2-0-2) so is a definite Each Way chance even from the wide gate.
Settle Strada is also out wide (nine into eight), Harrison’s Strada gelding first-up here and looking to continue their outstanding 1200m record at Belmont (6-5-0-0).
They were last seen running sixth behind Elite Belle in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) back on May 31 and should be fresh after a quick break and ready to strike over the shorter distance.
Pininci then starts one outside their stabelmate this afternoon as the Pins gelding shoots for their third win from four starts.
Their latest effort, as mentioned, was a win over hot favourite Smoko in the Beaufine Stakes as a $31 outside, their odds much shorter for their test here as they go up to 1200m for just the second time.
