Nearest To Pin Primed for Bletchingly Stakes Success

Breaking through for an upset victory when comfortably beating Le Bonsir to the line in the Listed All Victorian Sprint Final (1200m) on July 12th, talented Adelaide-based sprinter Nearest To Pin will be aiming to make it two on the trot when lining up for this weekend’s featured Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

Finding prime position on the heels of resounding pre-post favourite Vain Queen during the running of the All Victorian Sprint, Nearest To Pin completed a near-perfect performance when breaking clear in the final straight to record without doubt his biggest victory to date.

Likely to come up against a talented field of ten that will include impressive Robbie Laing-trained colt Lord Of The Sky, co-trainer Andrew Gluyas told AAP he could not be more pleased with the Golden Lake gelding’s building form over winter and believes he has more than earned his shot at the Bletchingly Stakes this weekend.

“He looks to be in good order so at this stage we are full steam ahead to having a go at weight-for-age,” Gluyas said.

“The nominations look a bit lean again, although once again there’s a standout fancy.

“The way he is racing, with his consistent manner, I think he deserves to have a crack on Saturday.”

Securing an impressive total of eight race wins and as many minor places over 23 competitive starts to date, Nearest To Pin overcame poor running position to finish third amongst classy competition in the Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) first-up this year, continuing to build in class and form over two starts before finishing an unlucky sixth when blocked for a run in the final straight of the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on April 26th.

Unlucky not to be aiming for a third consecutive victory in the 2014 Bletchingly Stakes, the gelding out of Princess Taylah finished second by a short nose to Pillar Of Creation in the Sportingbet Best Tote Plus Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley on June 21st.
