Yet to finish outside the places in eight competitive race starts to date, classy French galloper Terrubi has been purchased by Australian Bloodstock with a view towards contesting both the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.
Returning to racing in typically strong form this year, Terrubi won the Prix De La Porte De Madrid (2400m) at France’s St Cloud first-up on March 30th and claimed minor placings in both the Group 3 Prix De Barbeville (3100m) and Group 2 Vicomtesse Vigier (3100m) before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Maurice De Nieuil (2800m) at Longchamp two weeks ago.
Australian Bloodstock’s Jamie Lovett is understandably pleased with the acquisition of the Dalakhani entire ahead of the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, revealing he will remain in France to contest the Group 2 Prix Kergorlay (3000m) at Deauville in August 24th before heading to quarantine in the UK and joining the stables of David Payne upon arriving in Australia.
“He certainly ticks all our boxes so we’re very happy to have him,” Lovett told Racing Victoria.
“We purchased him prior to the Group 2 at Longchamp Sunday week ago and obviously we were quite pleased by that result.
“He meets all the qualifying conditions now and, without speaking to Greg Carpenter yet to see where he fits, I would suggest he would get into a Caulfield Cup.
“Ideally he’s a nice horse for the spring but he could be an even better horse in the autumn and the following spring because he’s only lightly raced.”
A notable performer from his first race starts, Terrubi was unlucky to finish third when blocked for a run in his two maiden appearances on course through the European summer of 2013; breaking through for a maiden race win in the Prix Lelio (2100m) in June.
Yet to appear in early betting markets for both the 2014 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, Terrubi’s arrival in Australia is sure to cause notable ripples.
