Sacred Falls Set To Resume In Memsie Stakes

Trainer Chris Waller has revealed that Sacred Falls is set to resume in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 30 and could be joined in the race by some of his talented stablemates.

Sacred Falls returned to his best form during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, taking out the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 12 before finishing second behind It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) and Waller believes that the O’Reilly entire is set for a big spring campaign.

Waller said that Sacred Falls will likely begin his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign in the Memsie Stakes and will return to Sydney for the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on September 20 before stepping up to 2000 metres for the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 25.

“We’ve got The Memsie penciled in there for Sacred Falls, if he didn’t happen to start before that in the Warwick Stakes,” Waller told Racing Victoria.

“The George Main Stakes is a Group 1 race where he’s already won two Group 1 races.

“I’d love him to win a Group 1 race on a good track because he’s not just a wet tracker.

“That still gives you plenty of time to get to Melbourne.

“He’s had the benefit of racing around Moonee Valley last preparation, he ran second or third in the Crystal Mile, so he’s ticked most boxes.

“We’ve just got to make sure he comes up and is still at his best in October.”

Sacred Falls contested a barrier trial alongside stablemates Boban, Hawkspur, Foreteller and Kencella this morning and he worked home fairly while being kept under a heavy hold to finish fifth behind Angel Bell.

The two-time Doncaster Mile winner finished ahead of both Hawkspur and Boban and is a chance of taking on his stablemates under proper race conditions in the Memsie Stakes.

“A horse like Boban needs a good track, so he’ll either stay in Sydney or Melbourne, wherever the best tracks are,” Waller said.

“Hawkspur’s pencilled in for it, but also pencilled in the week before in the Warwick Stakes and Royal Descent the same again.”
