A final field of 10 middle distance sprinters are engaged for this year’s $100,000 Listed Myer Fashion Winter Stakes (1400m) that is due to jump as Race 6 at 3:27pm.

Winter Stakes betting is shaping up as a tense two horse battle with two gallopers fighting for top spot in the markets.

Current $3.30 favourite and market mover is Scream Machine drawn wide in barrier 10 with Tye Angland to ride on 58.5kg.

Jason Coyle’s Excites gelding comes off back-to-back wins at the track most recently over 1500m in the Natski Handicap carrying two kilos less than their allocation for the weekend.

Their biggest danger to making it a Rosehill hat-trick is then Generalife ($3.50) who is out to achieve the same three-from-three effort at the course.

Drawn better in gate six and carrying 56.5kg, John O’Shea’s Lonhro four-year-old won over 1350m here on June 14 before their last start win in the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) when getting in on the 54kg minimum.

The other single figure hope in the markets is the field’s other last start Rosehill winner, Romantic Moon ($7) coming off a victory here over 1500m from June 28.

So are these three the ones that will finish in the money for the Winter Stakes trifecta?

Or is there an upset Winter Stakes result on the cards from a longer priced hopeful such as Chris Waller’s General Nediym stallion Tougher Than Ever ($12), Romantic Moon’s stablemate The Peak ($13) coming off a Civic Stakes fifth or another of Waller’s contingent Hidden Kisses ($13)?

#9 Romantic Moon ($7)

Tipping an upset from the James & Bart Cummings’ stables and think the filly can handle a class rise and beat home the open field here. She’s up from a Benchmark 83 at the track over 1500m from June 28 but impressed there and dropping back 100m should be sharp enough. Gets a gun run from barrier one having done it from inside barrier two draw last time, and will relish the drop back from 57.5kg to the 54kg minimum here to put her in the mix at a track she’s run three really good races on this season.

#7 The Peak ($13)

Sticking with the Cummings’ factor here with their other runner for a surprise second. Nice barrier five draw for this five-year-old who has been just off them in their past three Sydney runs. Last start ran fifth to Generalife in the Civic Stakes beaten five lengths but think they will improve over a little more distance and can turn the tables. Get in on the same weight 55kg but will improve with their last run over the 1400m producing a Flemington win back in December. Get the trail up with winning stabelmate.

#4 Generalife ($3.50)

Of the shorties think Generalife is the one most likely after their Civic Stakes success. Carry 56.5kg up from 54kg for their black-type win over 1350m here last start so need to handle the extra kilos. Back-to-back Rosehill wins behind them and could come close again for Darley.
