Belmont Classic Betting Tips 2014

On Saturday the feature race in WA will be the 2014 Belmont Classic for three-year-old staying types, betting tips for which are detailed below.

There are 10 hopefuls making up the field for this weekend’s $100,000 Listed Belmont Classic (2200m) that lost its draw card contender with the Belmont Guineas – Oaks winning filly Tick Tick Bloom out with a bruised hoof.

Three of the confirmed runners can be found in the Belmont Classic odds under $10 including the firming $2.10 favourite Star Of Husson.

Grant Williams’ Husson filly comes off a close second in the Listed Belmont Oaks (2000m) when beaten only a long neck by Tick Tick Bloom, a performance the bookies are tipping her to improve on as she steps up in distance.

Also at single figures are then last start Dayana Plate winner Proceedwithcaution ($3.20) who ran faster time over the 2000m on Oaks Day than Tick Tick Bloom and the horse they beat home there Shalo ($9) who is expected to appreciate the extra metres on Saturday.

So are these three the ones you should lock into your Belmont Classic trifecta bets?

Or is there value to be found further down the Belmont Classic betting markets from the likes of I’m Feeling Lucky ($10) who ran third in the Belmont Oaks or even Oaks fourth placegetter Yaloginda ($26)?

#7 Star Of Husson ($2.10)

She’s probably a little short in the markets but think the Oaks form will stack up here and Star Of Husson will be the one to beat with Tick Tick Bloom out of the equation. She’s wider in gate eight but plenty of metres to overcome and will relish William Pike jumping back aboard. The last time Pike, who has been riding Tick Tick Bloom, rode her they were a close fourth over the 2200m at Belmont on May 31. She’s got the experience over the distance then and will appreciate the step up for this.

#2 Shalo ($9)

Runner-up to fellow Classic rival Proceedwithcaution, who is shorter in the markets, over the 2000m here back on June 5. They were beaten 2.5 lengths that day with the winner running outstanding time, but think that the increase in distance will see them close that gap and come close to a win here. The son of Danehill Express has an outstanding record of top three runs and hasn’t finished out of the money since their debut in September last year. First look at the 2200m but trainer Simon Miller is tipping them to lap it up.

#9 Mystical Miss ($21)

Adding value to the top three here, Miller’s other runner is our roughie pick of this pack. The More Than Ready filly is from lovely pedigree and has been on the improve this prep. Won at Pinjarra two back and ran third over 1650m here on July 9, needs to handle the metres but has a lighter weight better gate and jockey change with Chris Parnham to ride so cannot be ruled out.
