Kennedy Confident of Belmont Classic Success Aboard Proceedwithcaution

Unable to break through for another Stakes victory since partnering Fly Affair to the 2011 edition of the Listed Gimcrack, jockey Ben Kennedy is confident of a return to the winner’s circle in this weekend’s featured Belmont Classic (2000m) aboard exciting prospect Proceedwithcaution.

Returning to racing in exceptional form this season, Kennedy has arguably been Western Australia’s best jockey of the last month, and is offered an exceptional chance of scoring this weekend’s feature at Belmont aboard the current race favourite.

Confirmed to leave for a long-awaited holiday following the Belmont Classic, Kennedy told the West Australian he is confident Proceedwithcaution will be able to figure in contention from any racing position, and is looking forward to some rest and recuperation, despite being urged to stay put and chase further racing success.

“I don’t think he’ll have a problem with the distance, as long as he settles,” Kennedy said.

“He’s pretty versatile. He doesn’t have to sit on the speed like he did the other day. He’s won coming from last before.

“Everyone is telling me I’m crazy going away while I’m in good form, but I’ve had it booked for six months and I’ve got to do it while I’m still young.”

Debuting to racing with a near-four length victory in the Bullcreek TAB 3.y.o Maiden (1200m) in December 2013, Proceedwithcaution has quickly built to the task over five competitive race starts this time in, overcoming a disappointing run for eleventh in the Safeway Contracting Handicap (1203m) first-up with a commanding three length win in the Angela Davis Memorial C&G (1200m) just two weeks later.

Displaying a keen turn of foot to run on from the rear of the field in the Listed Belmont Guineas (1600m) on June 21st, the Trade Fair gelding will carry winning form into the Belmont Classic after winning the Dayana Plate (2000m) most recently of July 5th.
