2014 Ramornie Handicap Betting Tips

There are a dozen sprinters in the mix for tomorrow’s Ramornie Handicap 2014 at Grafton Racecourse, betting tips on NSW’s richest country sprint found below.

Big Money

Scheduled as the seventh race on Wednesday’s Grafton race card, this year’s $150,000 Listed Crowe Horwath Ramornie Handicap (1200m) is due to jump at 3:42pm.

Clear favourite in the markets paying $2.70 is the Rodney Northam-trained Big Money who is yet to finish out of the top two in their 10 career starts to date.

Drawn on the rails in barrier one with the country’s most prolific jockey Robert Thompson in the saddle, the Choisir four-year-old comes off a win in the Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) in Brisbane.

Also at single figures are market mover Testarythm ($5) who is after their second black-type win this prep, 59kg top weight Hidden Warrior ($7) coming off a fourth in Randwick’s June Stakes, the Jarrod Austin-trained Territory ($7.50) in the outside barrier and the resuming Gai Waterhouse-trained Under The Sun ($8).

With so many livewire chances though it can be hard to make your Ramornie Handicap selections, so check our tips on the feature below before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au to place your bets.

1st

#5 Big Money ($2.70)

They’re shortie in the markets for a reason and think from the inside barrier with Thompson staying on they’ll be hard to beat again. Haven’t finished worse than second in their 10 starts to date and look in line to continue that imposing statistic. Come off really nice Brisbane form with their WJ Healy win last time out over Cape Kidnappers from the outside barrier (10). Carry more weight here but have a gun draw, have carried this weight before well over the distance and the Healy form has held up more than once in this race. Thompson won last year and is after back-to-back Ramornie wins for the second time.

2nd

#2 Testarhythm ($5)

Sticking with the order of the Ramornie odds this year and think market mover Testarhythm will be right up there in a really close finish. Broadmeadow-based six-year-old has been in flying form around Sydney this time in starting with a first up win in the Listed Ortnesia Stakes at Scone defeating Unanimously. Come off a third when 1.4 lengths off Oakfield Commands in the Winter Dash over the 1200m at Randwick on June 21 carrying 57.5kg from barrier 11. Half a kilo more here but better barrier (3) with their Ortensia winning Tim Clark back in the saddle.

3rd

#10 Villamill ($31)

Really juicy price on Peter Ball’s Minardi mare from Gladstone in NSW who we rate for a sneaky upset in the minor placings. Adds huge value to the trifecta and think the five-year-old can surprise. Is up in class after her John Carlton Cup win at the track and distance on July 3, but deserving of a shot. Bookies aren’t rating this form but she’s won two from three at the track and distance, handles all types of going and looks spot on.
