Dunn Excited by Spring Racing Prospects For Happy Trails

Partnering the exciting six-year-old to an agonisingly close second in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) in October last year, jockey Dwayne Dunn has revealed he is excited to link up with Happy Trails again through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

Partnering the Good Journey gelding for the first time to fourth in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) on September 21st, Dunn was thrilled when claiming the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) ahead of Puissance De Lune on October 5th and has since been unable to break through for another victory at the highest level of Australian racing.

Running on to finish a short nose behind Shamus Award in the Cox Plate, Dunn said he is thrilled to be on-board for another preparation geared towards the October 25 feature.

“Trying to find a nice horse through the period is something that I have worked on as well,” Dunn told Racing Ahead.

“All Too Hard it was hard to swallow giving him away, but there are a couple of nice horses coming through the stables now and hopefully I can get on board them.

“Happy Trails is back in work.

“He is quiet a funny story within himself because the three of us had to have some time off; himself through injury, Paul (Beshara) as was well documented and myself through injury.

“I look forward to him coming back and he has been on the slow recovery.

“It shouldn’t be too long until we see him back on the racetrack.”

Claiming six race victories and 13 minor places from just 38 competitive starts to date, Happy Trails was a standout performer over the entire 2013 racing calendar; contesting nine events, eight of which at Group level which also included a strong run for third in the Group 1 Queen ElizabethStakes (2000m) during autumn.

Yet to be confirmed for any race during the 2014 Spring, Happy Trails is currently offered at a quote of $15 in early betting markets for the success in the 2014 Cox Plate; sharing the fourth line of betting with Almalad.
