Trainer Peter Morgan has confirmed exciting two-year-old Eloping has returned to work ahead of a 2014 Spring Racing Carnival that is likely to include a first-up appearance in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) in September.
Having enjoyed her time in the spelling paddock following an appearance early in the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, Morgan told RVN he is thrilled with the condition of the Choisir filly but conceded there are limited options for her this season.
“She spelled ok, she always looks after herself. We’re really happy with her,” Morgan said.
“Her first goal will be the Group 3 Champagne Stakes at the Valley at the end of September.
“There’s not that many sprint races for fillies during the spring. They’re pretty light on, so we might have to tackle open company with her.
“I’ll be tempted to push her beyond 1200m no doubt, but at this stage we’ll just rake the Champagne Stakes as it comes.
“If she doesn’t come-up well, or if she’s just an autumn filly, then we’ll give her a break and come back in the autumn.”
Securing four wins and one minor place from just eight competitive race starts to date, Eloping debuted with impressive victories back-to-back including the Listed Blue Diamond Preview F (1000m) on January 25th; finishing second to Earthquake in the Blue Diamond Prelude F (1100m) just two weeks later,
Continuing to build in form and class which included a mid-pack finish in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, the filly out of Runaway Jesse won the Group 3 Royal Randwick Stakes (1200m) before finishing fourth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) last time out.
With early markets yet to open for the Group 3 Champagne Stakes, Eloping is currently offered at a particularly generous quote of $41 for success in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas over a mile on October 15th.
