Having prepared the O’reilly mare for a tilt at Australia’s headline race through the spring of 2013, James was forced to scratch Silent Achiever just four days out after she was struck down with an infection; something which still plays on the trainer’s mind to this day.

A standout performer over the 2014 Autumn Racing Carnival in securing two major Group 1 titles, James told the Herald Sun he is excited by the way Silent Achiever has continued to build in form and class over recent racing campaigns, and believes she will be in ideal condition come the 2014 Melbourne Cup.

“Last autumn she won the Ranvet and The BMW and the previous year she finished fifth and second in the same races. She improves each preparation,” James said.

“Her work at Flemington on the Tuesday before (the 2013 Melbourne Cup) was the best of any horse that ran that day in terms of time and there were 19 Group 1 winners working on the course proper that day.”

Securing an impressive record of ten wins and five minor places from just 25 competitive race starts to date, Silent Achiever arguably hit career-best form over her most recent preparation in autumn; claiming three Group 1 victories back-to-back including the New Zealand Stakes (2000m) in her homeland before crossing the ditch to claim the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and The BMW (2400m) with relative ease.

Placing fourth amongst particularly classy company in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) last time out, Silent Achiever is currently available at particularly generous odds of $34 in early betting markets for success in the 2014 Melbourne Cup; sharing the fourth line of betting with 15 possible rivals.
