Destiny’s Kiss Eyeing Second Winter Cup Success

Fresh off the back of an impressive victory in the Stayers Cup (3200m) at Randwick last time out on June 7th, trainer Joseph Pride has confirmed Destiny’s Kiss will contest this weekend’s Listed Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens, but is hopeful of more nominations before Wednesday’s final field is announced.

Producing a memorable turn of foot to hunt down leader Astro Avalanche in the final straight and win the Stayers Cup by half a length, Destiny’s Kiss is one of just six nominations for this weekend’s Rosehill feature and is a noted performer in events with far-greater running numbers.

Hoping for rain in the latter stages of this week, Pride told the Sydney Morning Herald the Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) on July 10th is another option for the Power Of Destiny gelding if conditions warrant the trip north.

“We will have to wait and see if there are any more nominations. A bigger field would be better for him,” Pride said.

“The horse is in good order and I hope the handicapper gives him a break. He won the race last year and it would be great to see him do it again.

“The Grafton Cup is still there but I don’t want to drag him up there to run on a dry track.

“The other option is to give him three weeks off and get him ready for the Newcastle Cup.”

Contesting an impressive race record of 10 victories and a further nine minor places from just 34 competitive starts to date, Destiny’s Kiss has returned to racing in great touch this season, finishing fifth amongst classy competition in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) first-up before returning to the winner’s circle in the Dunkirk 3.y.o+ (1600m) on April 25th.

Finishing fifth in the Listed Scone Cup (1600m) and second in the Listed WJ McKell Cup (2400m) prior to his Stayers Cup triumph, Destiny’s Kiss has been confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Josh Parr this weekend and is more than a chance of a second-consecutive victory in the Winter Cup.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Winter Cup is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
