Nominations for this year’s $100,000 Listed ATC Winter Cup (2400m) will now stay open until 11:00am on Tuesday in a bid to attract a few more hopes to the handicap clash that has a 16-starter capacity field.

Of the current nominees, three come from the stables of ace Sydney horseman Chris Waller.

Waller has nominated for Hoylonny along with European imports Mulaqen and Secessio.

Lonhro five-year-old Hoylonny has run 11th in their past three runs since Boxing Day and need to improve dramatically to win even in the small field on Saturday.

Haafhd six-year-old Mulaqen meanwhile has been in better form.

Most recently the gelding was three and a quarter lengths away fourth behind the Joe Pride-trained Keep Cool in the $85,000 Freshmark Handicap (2000m) at the Rosehill track on June 14.

Konigstiger gelding Secessio meanwhile is the best performed of Waller’s trio.

They come into the race on the back of some credible Black Type form this campaign.

Firstly they ran a close third to Zephyron in the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m) at Rosehill before finishing third again this time behind LA Amistad in the Listed McKell Cup (2400m) when stepped up in distance at Randwick on May 24.

Last time out they went up to the two miles for the Stayers Cup (3200m) where they finished 14 lengths off the winner failing to run out the distance, something they can improve on going back down to 2400m here.

Stayers Cup winner Destiny’s Kiss meanwhile also backs up and is the headline ATC Winter Cup nominee.

Pride’s Power Of Destiny five-year-old was runner-up in the McKell Cup two back before their victory in the wet on June 7, an effort they’ll be looking to repeat despite going back to the mile and a half here.

Rounding out the Winter Cup nominations are then the Gai Waterhouse-trained One Cool Cat four-year-old Sir Bigglesworth and Gerald Ryan’s veteran Zabeel gelding Ironstein.

A rising nine-year-old, Ironstein is also nominated for the $175,000 Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland on Saturday.

They’re more likely to accept for Sydney however in their lead-up to the $150,000 Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) on July 10 which will be their swansong race before retirement.

See below for the early ATC Winter Cup 2014 nominations, the final field due for release on Wednesday.
