On Saturday the WJ Healy Stakes 2014 has attracted an impressive line-up of stayers eager for a Group win on the final Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival meeting.

The Eagle Farm feature runs as Race 5 on Tattersall’s Tiara Day at 2:30pm with this year’s $175,000 Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) field attracting 10 final acceptors.

There’s plenty of class among the runners too including favourite in the WJ Healy Stakes betting markets Bennetta.

Tommy Berry’s mount pays $3.70 to win on Saturday, the Grahame Begg-trained General Nediym mare coming off a third to Sacred Star at the track from May 31 in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m).

It’s an open affair in the WJ Healy Stakes odds too with four other single figure chances including the in-form Cape Kidnappers ($4.20) after their third on the trot.

The Kelly Schweida-trained son of Commands beat many of these home last start on June 7 when winning the Listed Lightning Handicap (1000m0 but they did only have a long neck to spare over runner-up Big Money who is a $5.50 chance for the weekend.

Also in the mix under $10 are then early market mover Seeking More ($8) who is drawn on the rails and the Rob Heathcote-trained Excellantes ($9.50) who was third to Cape Kidnappers at Doomben in the Chief De Beers last time out.

#7 Bennetta ($3.70)

We are sticking with the race favourite here in Bennetta who will appreciate the step back in distance here, and the run at the track last time out. Beaten under half a length in the QTC Cup last start and gets the chance to atone on Saturday and come away with a win. She’s got recent Group 1 form when sixth in the All Aged Stakes in Sydney and the blinkers go back on to help sharpen her up for this.

2^nd

#10 Big Money ($5.50)

Was only just nudged out of the Lightning Handicap last start, before which they won back-to-back sprints in New South Wales. Have had a run at the track now so will be better for that, get in on the 54kg minimum whereas their last start conqueror Cape Kidnappers carries 58kg. Wide barrier (10) but going up to the 1200m should be competitive.

#9 Metallurgical ($12)

Nice price on John Thompson’s Redoute’s Choice seven-year-old who has been thereabouts this prep and gets a chance to finish in the money here. Started things off with a Black Type second at Doomben before their Chief De Beers fourth. Fourth again in the Lightning, has the 54kg again and is a winner at the track and distance previously so right form.
