Rex Lipp’s Queensland Oaks winner Tinto has opened short priced favourite to keep the richest going this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival with a win in Saturday’s 2014 Tattersall’s Cup back at Eagle Farm.
The flying Toowoomba-based daughter of Red Dazzler was at the track last start on May 31 when beating home Arabian Gold by and easy margin in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m).
She’s down in class but up against the boys on Saturday then stepping back to 2200m for her shot at the $200,000 Group 3 Carlton Draught Tattersall’s Cup on Tattersall’s Tiara Day that ends the Group 1 racing for another season down under.
The three-year-old has been in flying form this time in enjoying two wins and a second from her three most recent runs including of course the Group 1.
Tinto has drawn barrier one for Saturday and will be ridden by regular rider and Oaks jockey Timothy Bell, the duo paying $2.60 in the latest Tattersall’s Cup odds.
They’re followed in the markets then by three other single figure hopes with:
- #2 Wish Come True ($4.40) – Wide barrier 11 draw for Peter Moody’s Melbourne visitor, the four-year-old Aussie Rules stallion coming off a Moonee Valley win over 2040m from June 7, Italian import has had just the three runs down under and a Group 2 second in Italy before that over the 2200m
- #4 Pretty Pins ($5.50) – John Thompson-trained Pins mare has a nice gate two to jump from here as she looks to continue her good form including the five-year-olds’ Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap victory over 2000m at Doomben on May 10, last start was over the 2400m in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup on June 7 when fourth to Floria, will appreciate coming back in class and distance here though and gets in on the 54kg minimum
- #7 Iggi Pop ($7) – John Sargent’s Savabeel five-year-old has mixed lead-up form in Sydney so hard to gauge their chances here in Queensland going up to 2200m off a sixth over 1800m at Rosehill on May 31, think there’s better value elsewhere in the field
Just outside of these is are then the Michael Moroney-trained Ipswich Cup fifth placegetter from last weekend Garud ($11) followed by Military Move at a juicy $17.
Top weight with 58kg to overcome, Shaune Ritchie’s New Zealand raider Military Move has form over this distance at Group 2 level back home and comes off a victory in the Toowoomba Cup over 2150m from the start of the month against easier rivals but carrying more weight (59.5kg).
