Paul Messara’s last start stakes performer at the track Limehills returns to Eagle Farm Racecourse this Saturday for a shot at a Black Type win of their own in the 2014 Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes.
There are 11 two-year-olds in the mix for this year’s $100,000 Listed Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes (1400m) that runs as Tattersall’s Tiara Day Race 3 at 1:20pm.
Favourite of those in the Eagle Farm Race 3 odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is Redoute’s Choice colt Limehills, the early market mover paying $2.80 to break their maiden status at start number three.
They’ve run second in their opening two starts so far, the most recent of those being in the Listed Hampden Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on June 7.
That day they finished three quarters of a length off the Gai Waterhouse-trained winner Sports Edition with Jim Byrne aboard, Byrne retaining the ride for Saturday with the duo to jump from barrier seven.
Next best in Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes betting at $3.80 is then another maiden looking to enter the winners’ stall for the first time, Bayrock in barrier five.
Waterhouse’s Fastnet Rock filly takes on the boys here after two promising runs back in Sydney this time in.
She was last seen crossing just a long neck away second to Inz’n’out in a two-year-olds’ set weights race run on a Heavy (9) Randwick course a fortnight ago.
Bayrock then will appreciate any rain that falls before Saturday’s assignment and will also benefit from a jockey change with ace hoop Tommy Berry, over from Hong Kong for the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara ride on her stablemate Cosmic Endeavour, engaged for the job.
The other two single figure chances for the juveniles’ clash at $6.50 each are then Elitist and Rich Reward.
Kelso Wood’s locally-trained Stratum filly Elitist has the inside alley to help get her home following two good runs at stakes level during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
She ran third to Tales Of Fashion in the Listed Lancaster Stakes (1200m) at Doomben two back before her fifth to Lucky Tom last time out on Oaks Day over this track and distance (1400m) in The Phoenix that she will have learned a lot from.
Rich Reward meanwhile jumps from gate eight on the weekend with Paul Butterworth’s fellow local filly looking to improve on a last start fourth, beaten only 1.3 lengths, in the Hampden Stakes.
