Srikandi Confirmed for 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara Tilt

Trainer Ciaron Maher has confirmed exciting filly Srikandi will remain in Brisbane to contest the featured Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse on June 21st after pulling up on good order after last weekend’s Stradbroke Handicap.

Jumping outright favourite for the Stradbroke after producing an incredible start to her racing career, Srikandi was unable to match the late pace of River Lad and Temple Of Boom, however still managed to run on and claim a fighting third.

Reportedly a picture of health over the days that have proceeded, Maher told TVN he is pleased with the Dubawi filly’s condition and sees no reason to keep her away from a second tilt at the highest level of Australian racing.

“She has come through great and is very bright and well,” Maher said.

“If it wasn’t a Group 1 she wouldn’t run, but we’re here, she’s well and it’s a Group 1 for fillies and mares, so there’s not really much reason to miss the race.”

Debuting on track with a comfortable victory in the Slickpix Plate (1000m) on September 19th, Srikandi has more than stamped her claims as one of the most exciting rising four-year-olds of the current Australian racing crop over a memorable preparation this time in.

Unlucky to finish second when blocked for a run in the final straight of the Drain Man Fillies 3.y.o (1000m) first-up on February 28th, the filly out of Raining secured an impressive run of five consecutive race wins, including all of the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m), Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) prior to last weekend’s third in the Stradbroke Handicap.

Yet to finish outside the places over her eight career starts, Srikandi has already delivered connections close to $500,000 in prize money, and will return to the spelling paddock following the Tattersall’s Tiara ahead of what is likely to be a busy 2014 spring preparation.
