A talented field of 17 has been nominated for an appearance in Ipswich this weekend for the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m), including classy Chris Waller-trained sprinter Masthead.

Claiming four race victories and a further 15 places from his 35 career starts so-far, Masthead has experienced an interesting racing career since debuting on track in the spring of 2010; passing through the stables of renowned trainer Lee Freedman, Anthony Freedman and a stint in Singapore under Michael Freedman before arriving in the care of Waller at the beginning of his current preparation.

Quickly impressing over just three appearances since arriving, the Written Tycoon gelding finished third amongst classy competition in the Hawkesbury Rush Quality (1100m) first-up on May 3^rd, and while unlucky when blocked for a run and fourth in the Listed Star Stakes (1300m) on May 17^th, returned to impressive form when a close second to Sacred Star in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) last time out on May 31^st.

Having received the ideal lead-in to the 2014 Eye Liner, Masthead will be particularly difficult to beat from any barrier, inside or wide this weekend.

Arguably leading the charge of the locals in the 2014 Eye Liner Stakes, in-form trainer Tony Gollan has nominated Alma’s Fury for an appearance in Ipswich this weekend.

Finishing fast for seventh in the QTC Cup first-up two weeks ago, Alma’s Fury is one of the most experienced racehorses nominated for the 2014 Eye Liner Stakes and will be pose a serious threat from an ideal barrier.

A mainstay in major events in his most-recent racing preparation, the Refuse To Bend gelding completed impressive runs for third in both the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) and Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1550m) most notably over summer, and appears to have returned this season in similarly impressive touch.

Strolling home to win the Listed Bright Shadow Quality (1200m) by nearly two lengths ahead of fellow Eye Liner Stakes nominee Avaladyluck first-up on May 31^st, trainer Trevor Thomas has included classy four-year-old Ellawisdom in nominations for this weekend’s Listed sprint.

Claiming an impressive total of six race victories and five minor places from 27 competitive race starts, Ellawisdom performed well over the winter of 2013, and continued to build in form and class over a spring and summer preparation which delivered an impressive victory and unlucky second over 1400 Queensland tracks most notably.

Finishing inside the places in over half of her competitive race starts to date, Avaladyluck has quickly built to the task at hand this time in, finishing sixth in the Listed Chief De Beers Quality (1110m) prior to her second in the Bright Shadow Quality.

And standout performer over events early in the 2014 racing calendar, the Bradbury’s Luck mare finished second in three of five events, including the Listed Nudgee Quality (1200m) most notably on January 25^th.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Eye Liner Stakes is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
