With three Group 1 races highlighting the program it’s set to be a cracking day’s racing in Brisbane today and with no chance of rain it should be perfect conditions at the course proper at Eagle Farm that’s currently rated a Good (3).

Eagle Farm Track Report

  • Rail Position: +3 metres Entire Course
  • Track Condition: Good (3)
  • Track Type: Turf
  • Weather: Fine, some clouds
  • Chance of Rain: 0%
  • Penetrometer: 4.4

Despite warnings of rain earlier in the week it is clear skies in Brisbane today with no chance of rain keeping the track at a Good (3) with the mudlarks shifting out in the markets.

As mentioned, all nine Eagle Farm races today are stakes races with the meeting’s three majors running as races six – seven.

First up is the $500,000 Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) for the two-year-olds where the Chris Waller-trained Brazen Beau is hot favourite.

Then the three-year-olds face off in the $500,000 Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) another race where Sydney’s top trainer Waller saddles up a big chance in Vilanova.

Of course the race everyone’s there to see is the $1.36 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) where a bumper 18-horse field is set to face off, the five emergencies now officially withdrawn.

All three Group 1 races have had no scratchings from their starting line-ups.

The only notable Stradbroke Handicap Day scratching then was from yesterday with Waller taking out his Tattersall’s Tiara-bound mare Catkins from the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) on vet’s instruction.
