2014 Queensland Oaks Day Scratchings & Track Report

The 2014 Brisbane Winter Carnival continues this weekend; with the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) the feature race on what is set to be an action-packed day of racing at Eagle Farm this weekend.

Hucklebuck has been scratched from the 2014 Queensland Guineas and will run in the Stradbroke Handicap next weekend.

There have been a few showers in Brisbane overnight and the weather is slightly overcast, but the Eagle Farm track is still rated as a good three and will hopefully play fairer than the Doomben track that has favored leaders in the past fortnight.

Most of the races at Eagle Farm this afternoon will feature close to capacity fields, but the large Eagle Farm track should give every horse the opportunity to record a race win.

Eagle Farm Track Report

  • Weather: Overcast
  • Track Conditions: Good 3
  • Penetrometer: 4.7
  • Rail: True Entire Course
  • Previous Rail: Out 10m from 1600m-900m; Out 12m the remainder

The biggest news coming out of Eagle Farm this morning is the scratching of talented gelding Hucklebuck from the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m); with connections opting to save the C.S. Hayes Stakes winner for the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap next weekend.

The Queensland Oaks will be run with a capacity field of 18 fillies, with all five emergencies missing out on a run in the Group 1 event, while the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) will only feature seven runners, but is set to be a very interesting tactical race.
