The major three-year-olds’ race on the program in Brisbane this weekend is the Queensland Guineas 2014 – betting tips and exotic selections for Eagle Farm Race 6 detailed right here.

There’s a capacity field of youngsters in the mix for this year’s $350,000 Group 2 Sky Racing Queensland Guineas (1400m), favourite of the bumper line-up being the Phillip Stokes-trained Hucklebuck ($4.60).

Over from Adelaide for their share of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival spoils the Elvstroem gelding has Group 3 winning form in Melbourne from the autumn and put in a nice last start run in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben on May 17.

They are joined at single figures in the Queensland Guineas odds then by four other chances including Fred Best Classic winner Havana ($5.50) looking to make it two on the trot.

Also under $10 to take out the lucrative feature are then the rails-drawn Dothraki ($7) who won the Gold Coast Guineas two back, the resuming John O’Shea-trained Bernardini colt Agadir ($8) and New Zealand Group 1 winner Costa Viva ($9) out wide in double digits.

Or is there value to be found further down the markets from the likes of Darley-owned Gold Coast Guineas runner-up Safeguard ($13), Gai Waterhouse’s up-and-coming Sebring colt Longma ($15) or their stablemate Liberty’s Choice ($16) who ran second in the Inglis Scone Guineas last time out?

#1 Dothraki ($7)

Think from the inside barrier Gerald Ryan’s Mossman colt can gain the upper hand here and return to the winning form that saw them beat home a number of these same rivals in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) two back. They relished a Heavy (8) track for that and should get another rain affected course with rain around in Brisbane leading up to the weekend. Their last start in the Fred Best, the form for this event, was also good with only a length separating them and the winner. Betting having had a run over that distance, Listed winner over the 1400m during the Melbourne Cup Carnival too so lots to like with Nash Rawiller staying on.

#6 Havana ($5.50)

Nice price for Paul Messara’s Starcraft gelding who beat them home in the Fred Best last time out. They did it by a length there so if they hold the form are a chance again from a lovely barrier four draw. Seem to be thriving in Brisbane having also run second to Agitate in the Mick Dittman before their Group 3 win so hitting form at the right time and improving with each run.

#3 Hucklebuck ($4.60)

Will be fitter after their Fred Best fourth last time out so think they can finish closer even from their wide barrier. Time to overcome and sting out of the track will help, haven’t seen worse than Dead though so don’t want it too wet, but Group 3 CS Hayes winner over 1400m at Flemington in February and also ran eighth when beaten only two and a half lengths in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) behind Shamus Award so can handle classy rivals.
