Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Arguably reaching peak condition over her two most-recent appearances on track, trainer David Hayes has revealed talented three-year-old Star Fashion is likely to wear a new set of blinkers in this weekend’s featured Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse.
Unlucky to be pipped on the line by May’s Dream in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) on April 26th before once again finishing just in the red of winner Blue Ribbon in the Listed Centaurea Stakes (2006m) last time out, Hayes said he is unsure if Star Fashion’s current single-eyed blinker will suffice in the Queensland Oaks, but is confident of an impressive performance.
“I’m just a bit frightened she might hang out if I leave her in the one-eyed blinker she normally wears” Hayes told TVN.
“All I have done is switch it around a bit.
“I think if she runs a mile-and-a-half she has to run in the first three.”
Having been partnered by Matthew Neilson in each of her last three competitive appearances, Hayes confirmed renowned jockey Jeff Lloyd will take the ride on the Street Cry filly for the first time in the Queensland Oaks, further adding to her chances of a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing.
“I’ve just seen how many winners he’s been riding and I know he’s a world class rider” Hayes added.
Claiming one race win and five minor places from just 11 competitive race starts to date, Star Fashion contested a strong and consistent maiden preparation over the 2013 spring; unlucky to finish second in both the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m) and Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1610m) most notably.
Strolling home to win the Australia Plate (1440m) by more than six lengths first-up on February 16th, Star Fashion has continued to build in form and class on her way to this weekend’s feature.
Allocated the central barrier 8, Star Fashion is currently offered at particularly generous odds of $17 for success in the 2014 Queensland Oaks, or an even $5 to run a place.
Aiming for her fourth consecutive victory this weekend, Arabian Gold is currently featured as clear favourite for success in the Queensland Oaks at $2.50 odds.
