That means it is perfect weather for racing, the course proper at Doomben currently rated a Good (3) so it’s a day for firm trackers not mudlarks!

It’s a bumper nine-race card punters get to enjoy today.

Only the opening race at 11:40am is non Black-Type meaning there are eight stakes races to get in on the action of this Doomben 10,000 Day.

Heading those is of course the meeting’s namesake race, the $650,000 Group 1 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10,000 (1350m) running as the penultimate event on the card at 3:40pm.

The full 11 original acceptors are all still in the mix with no early withdrawals from the classic, Doomben 10,000 betting currently led by local champion Buffering ($4) shooting for their fourth Group 1 win.

The two main dangers to Robert Heathcote’s star six-year-old are then Sydney visitor Rebel Dane ($4.60) coming via the same lead-up as Epaulette did to win 12 months ago, and fellow Queenslander Spirit Of Boom ($4.80) who beat ‘The Buff’ home by one when they finished second and third respectively in the BTC Cup.

Supporting the Doomben 10,000 are then five other Group status races including the $250,000 Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) for 2014 JJ Atkins-bound two-year-olds.

Favourite in those markets is Chris Waller’s Champagne Classic winner Brazen Beau ($2.20) set to dominate Doomben Race 6 today where there are also no scratchings, a field of 15 set to face off.

The most notable Doomben scratching meanwhile is the John O’Shea-trained La Pieta from the $150,000 Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m), the Darley-owned Redoute’s Choice mare having been one of the top fancies after her first-up second in the Silk Stocking on the Gold Coast.
