Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Trainer Mick Price is confident exciting two-year-old prospect Pressing is in the right form to continue his so-far unbeaten racing career beginning in this weekend’s Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse.
Arriving in Brisbane in prime condition and working well over the past week, Price told TVN track work jockey Jim Byrne reported on good sign displayed by the Sebring colt after a strong piece of work beside stable mate and Glenlogan Park Stakes-entrant Jazz Song mid-week.
“He’s spot on. I’m very happy with him and he’s ready to run a really good race” Price said.
“Both jockeys were happy with both horses. Pressing was his usual relaxed self in his gallop, at the furlong (200m) he was getting a niggle, but on the line he was strong.
“He’s thrived, he’s done very well.”
Debuting with an impressive turn of foot to win the Mindy Green 2.y.o. Plate (1200m) on April 12th, Pressing stamped his claims as one to watch in major two-year-old events throughout the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival with a resounding four length victory in the Listed Sky High Mt Dandenong Stakes (1200m) last time out on May 3rd.
Appearing in nominations for the major Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 7th, Price said Pressing will have to perform to a high standard in the BRC Sires’ Produce if to warrant a position in the final field of the season’s headline event for two-year-olds.
“Sometimes you take them away and they thrive and sometimes you take them away and they stress and go backwards” Price told AAP last week.
“If he doesn’t thrive, I will spell him.”
Allocated the central barrier 8 for the 2014 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes, Pressing has been confirmed to be partnered by champion jockey Damien Oliver and is current sole occupant of the second line of betting for success at a generous quote of $6.
Strolling home to win the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben last time out, Brazen Beau has opened as and maintained clear favouritism for BRC Sires’ Produce success, currently offered at odds of $2.20 at Ladbrokes.com.au.
