2014 Grand Prix Stakes Tips

The 2014 Grand Prix Stakes is one of several exciting races at Doomben this weekend and will be the key lead-up race for the Group 1 Queensland Derby that will be held at Eagle Farm on June 7.

Amexed recorded a surprise victory in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) at Doomben on May 10 and punters are confident that the Tony Gollan-trained galloper is capable of scoring another win at Group level; with the progressive gelding a narrow favourite at 2014 Grand Prix Stakes odds of $4.

Telepatic stormed home late to finish second behind Amexed in the Rough Habit Plate and is sure to have taken plenty of benefit out of what was her Australian racing debut.

Trainer Donna Logan has now set the talented mare for the Queensland Derby and she is currently available at a quote of $4.20 to record her maiden race win in Australia this weekend.

Other runners in 2014 Grand Prix Stakes betting markets that have received support from punters include consistent Kiwi gelding Glorious Lad ($6), last start winner Pinstripe Lane ($7.50), Darley-owned Auberge and Helen Page-trained Rudy ($9.50).

The 2014 Grand Prix Stakes is a very open betting race and our team of horse racing experts have analysed the complete form guide as well as the history of the race to come up with our 2014 Grand Prix Stakes tips.

2014 Grand Prix Stakes Tips

1st

#3 Glorious Lad ($6)

Track bias could decide the outcome of the 2014 Grand Prix Stakes and if the Doomben track plays like it did last weekend Glorious Lad will prove tough to beat. Glorious Lad is set to receive a comfortable run towards the front of the field and is one galloper that is sure to relish the step back up in distance. The Falkirk gelding is currently available at good odds and has been a clear market mover with Ladbrokes.com.au.

2nd

#14 Telepathic ($4.20)

Telepathic may struggle if the Doomben track plays towards leaders once again, but her fast-finishing second in the Rough Habit Plate was very impressive. The Mossman mare gives trainer Donna Logan every impression that she will run out a strong 2200 metres and she should be running home strongly once again.

3rd

#4 Amexed ($4)

There is nothing to suggest that he can’t replicate his Rough Habit Plate performance in the Grand Prix Stakes, but his Kiwi rivals simply represent better value at their current quotes. Amexed is another galloper that probably needs a fair track to be a winning chance, but he cannot be left out of any exotic bets.
