A three-quarter sister to racing royalty Makybe Diva, the Team Hawkes-trained La Amistad has opened favourite for her first stakes assignment of the season in Saturday’s 2014 WJ McKell Cup at Randwick Racecourse.
Redoute’s Choice mare La Amistad is only lightly raced with 10 starts to date, four of which she has won, with number 11 coming up in the $100,000 Listed WJ McKell Cup (2400m) this weekend.
The locally-trained four-year-old has won her last two starts by a combined five lengths enjoying wins over 2100m at Echuca and 2400m at Warwick Farm over the past month.
She’s tipped to return to the winners’ stall again here then with jockey James McDonald staying on after their three length victory last time out.
La Amistad leads WJ McKell Cup betting at $3.30, the firm favourite jumping from out wide in barrier 11 of 14.
There are then four others hopes under double figures to win with:
The only two other runners under $20 in the markets are then Waller’s 59kg top weight Permit ($11) coming off a Lord Mayors Cup fifth and Redoute’s Choice mare Alzora ($17) out to improve on an unplaced Adelaide run last start.
