Srikandi Leads Glenlogan Park Stakes 2014 Field

Ciaron Maher’s flying Victorian filly Srikandi is the headline acceptor for Saturday’s 2014 Glenlogan Park Stakes where she will shoot for her fifth win on the trot.

The daughter of Dubawi is one of 15 fillies and mares making up the field for this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m), set to run as Doomben Race 5 at 1:55pm (AEST).

Srikandi boasts an outstanding record so far having won five of her six starts, and finishing second in her only loss, with her four most recent runs all being successful.

She’s also a dual stakes winner now too thanks to a Gold Coast triumph in the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) at the start of the month and then her tidy two and a quarter length victory here just last Saturday in the Listed Junamo Stakes (1200m).

That was an easy win that had jockey Glen Boss signing her praises and trainer Maher considering a shot at the $1.36 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm next month.

She had the run of the race last weekend however having drawn barrier two and so has her work cut out for her on the short seven day turnaround and a wide barrier 14 draw, Boss retaining the ride.

Also out wide is the Peter Moody-trained Plucky Belle (barrier 15) who comes off some very tidy Sydney form.

The Mossman five-year-old returned in March with a Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) second to Avoid Lightning and then ran fourth to Cosmic Endeavour in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m).

Her latest effort was behind Birthday Card third placegetter Aerobics when second in the Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury on May 3.

The top rated Glenlogan Park Stakes acceptor this year is then Simon Miller’s Perth visitor Platinum Rocker who has come up trumps with barrier six.

A six-year-old daughter of Love A Dane, Platinum Rocker enjoyed a stellar spring – summer campaign at home that included a Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) win and a second behind Luckygray in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) in November.

She returned on May 3 in the Silk Stocking on Hollindale Stakes Day and ran a credible third to Srikandi who she’ll be out to turn the tables on this weekend.

Another good lead-up run was the Group 1 Easter Handicap (1600m) second in New Zealand of Kiwi import Chintz, the Savabeel four-year-old to have her first start for Sydney trainer Joe Pride this weekend.

The consistent Group 1 performer comes into her Aussie debut on the back of a nice barrier trial at Warwick Farm from Monday when third behind Chris Waller’s champion mare Red Tracer over 795m.

Also coming off some good lead-up runs are the likes of the Brian Smith-trained Elusive Storm and the John O’Shea-trained La Pieta drawn in barriers two and one respectively.

Elusive City mare Elusive Storm won three on the trot in Brisbane this prep before her last start second behind another Glenlogan Park Stakes acceptor, the Robert Heathcote-trained Magic In Motion, at this track and distance on May 10.

Darley-owned Redoute’s Choice four-year-old La Pieta meanwhile returned in the Silk Stocking and finished second in a run the Group performer is set to improve on second-up.
