Srikandi A Chance For Stradbroke Handicap After Juanmo Stakes Win

Talented filly Srikandi is a chance of heading to the 2014 Stradbroke Handicap after recording an impressive victory in the Juanmo Stakes at Doomben this afternoon.

Srikandi was settled just behind the leader in the early stages of the Juanmo Stakes and travelled up into the race comfortably before racing well clear of the rest of the field to record an extremely comfortable win from Miniature and Pickabee.

Jockey Glen Boss was happy with the performance of Srikandi in the Juanmo Stakes, but the leading hoop admitted that the daughter of Srikandi will still need to improve to be a contender against the older horses in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 7.

“Who knows where she ends up,” Boss said.

“When she walked into the enclosure, appearance wise she looked like she had come on from the other day.

“Ciaron has done a wonderful job; she is more like a colt than a filly, she is strong and very aggressive.

“She really won untouched there again and she has a good couple of sectionals in here and I think that there is still a few lengths there.

“We will see what the attrition rate is like in the next couple of weeks; we have the 10,000 that will be run next week and I think that whatever wins that or runs well will win the Stradbroke.

“You have to put it into perspective, she is winning fillies races and if you go into one of those big Stradbroke against the boys you are talking lengths.”

Ciaron Maher said earlier in the week that Srikandi was a chance of heading to the Stradbroke Handicap if she scored her second straight win in the Juanmo Stakes and he confirmed that the feature race of the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival was still on the agenda for the classy filly.

“I thought if she could do similar to what she did at the Gold Coast on top of the ground against this field, you would have to think about it,” Maher said.

“Three-year-old fillies get in well at the weights and she just seems to be improving each start.

“Bossy was very confident on her and she just keeps on improving, it is very exciting.
