Rawiller To Ride Junoob Closer In Doomben Cup

Jockey Nash Rawiller has revealed that he will be looking to ride Junoob closer to the speed in the 2014 Doomben Cup in Brisbane this afternoon.

Rawiller partnered Junoob for just the second time in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast on May 3 and the Haafhd gelding made up ground late, but was unable to catch Streama, Mr O’Ceirin and Precedence after being settled towards the tail of the field.

Junoob has drawn ideally in barrier three for the Group 1 event this weekend and Rawiller told News Limited that he will looking to ride the six-year-old closer to the speed in the Doomben Cup this weekend.

“I’m hopeful we can ride Junoob closer,” Rawiller said.

“He got beaten for speed a little bit at the Coast and once he found his momentum it was too late, we were already in our spot.

“We were giving Streama a start; had we settled a little bit in front of her in the run I think it would have made the difference.”

Rawiller has a strong book of rides in Brisbane this afternoon and he will partner talented colt Dothraki in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m).

The leading hoop has ridden Dothraki in all three of his race starts this preparation and piloted the Mossman colt to victory in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) on May 3, but trainer Gerald Ryan was not particularly happy with the ride; criticizing Rawiller for hitting the front too early on the enigmatic colt.

“If he can just get into one of those races, like a Stradbroke, with high pressure where he can sit off the speed, I think it could fall into place for him,” Rawiller said.

“He basically pulled up and waited for them last time. It was just fortunate we had a big enough lead to hold on.”

Rawiller will also ride Bassillique in the Listed Dalrello Stakes, Kalabek in the Listed Lancaster Stakes, She’s Clean in the Listed Juanmo Stakes, Miss Hufflepuff in The Roses and Solzhenitsyn in the Group 3 BRC Sprint.
