2014 Lancaster Stakes Results – Tales Of Fashion Records Black Type Win

Promising filly Tales Of Fashion upset the well-backed Shinji and Kalabek to record her maiden black type win in the 2014 Lancaster Stakes at Doomben this afternoon.

Grapevine and Shinji set the pace in the early stages of the race, but were unable to go on with the race when challenged on the turn and it was Tales Of Fashion who snuck up on the inside and stormed to the front at the 200 metre mark.

Tales Of Fashion was dived at late by Matthew Dunn-trained Freezethemillions who flew home in the final stages of the race, but the Tale Of The Cat filly held on to give trainer Trevor Bailey a win with his only runner on the Doomben card.

Shinn could not hide his delight at being able to score a Listed race win on a horse prepared by Bailey and paid credit to the work that the Newcastle-based trainer had done with the talented filly.

“It is absolutely outstanding to ride a winner for Trevor Bailey,” Shinn said.

“He is an absolute gentleman on and off the track and he had this horse primed to win today.

“She is very well educated as you would have seen; she jumped, put herself in a beautiful position, took an needle eye gap there at the 250 and she just wanted to attack the line.

“She is not that big, but she has a big heart and it was a great victory.

“She has a beautiful action and she is only going to get better as she gets bigger and fills into her frame.

“Full credit to her and Trevor.”

Shinn will partner one of his favourite mares in Streama in the 2014 Doomben Cup this afternoon and the triple Group 1 winner has been well-backed to take out the weight-for-age event, in what could be the final race start of her racing career.

The leading hoop is confident that Streama will relish being back on top of the ground at Doomben this afternoon and said there will be no excuses if she is unable to record her fourth Group 1 win.

“It is ideal and there is a little bit of cut in the ground, which is going to help her,” Shinn said.

“I don’t think there is going to be too many excuses for her or any of the runners running here today.”
