Ryan Hopeful of Fastcar Upset in 2014 Scone Guineas

Trainer Gerald Ryan is confident in the chance of exciting prospect Fastcar in this weekend’s Scone Guineas (1600m), despite the three-year-old making a huge leap up in class for the first time competitively.

Yet to contest a race at Group or even Listed level, Ryan told TVN the impressive $400,000 prize pool boasted by the Scone Guineas made an appearance for Fastcar almost mandatory.

“I know he’s been thrown in the deep end running in this race” Ryan said.

“But he’s got the blinkers back on and he’s back on the top of the ground which will definitely help him.

“The reason why he is running in the race is because it is worth so much money, and that’s a good reason.

“He’s a bolters chance.”

Claiming one win and five places from just eleven competitive race starts to date, Fastcar was a consistent performer over his maiden preparation in the 2013 winter and spring; displaying a keen turn of foot on debut to run on for fifth in the Australian Turf Club Plate (1200m) and finishing second behind Wistful in the Panthers Plate (1300m) on August 8th most notably.

Returning to the track in similarly impressive form this season, the Sebring gelding was unlucky to finish fifth when blocked for a run in the Drummond Golf Plate (1250m) first-up, but continued to build in form and experience on his way to a comfortable win in the Wentworthville Plate (1400m) on February 27th.

Claiming two further minor placings from his proceeding three starts, Fastcar is a reasonable chance of completing a successful step-up in class in the 2014 Scone Guineas after drawing the ideal barrier 3.

Currently given little hope of success, Fastcar is offered at a particularly generous quote of $81 for success in the 2014 Scone Guineas, or $17 to run a place.

Returning to racing in great form this season, classy Team Hawkes-trained runner Chautauqua is currently clear favourite and $2.80 market mover for success in the 2014 Scone Guineas.
