BRC Sprint 2014 Betting Tips

Doomben Cup Day comes to a close in Brisbane on Saturday with the 2014 BRC Sprint– betting tips and selections to help end your day with a win listed below.

There are two early scratchings from this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Darley BRC Sprint (1350m) field with #13 Emblems (12) and #15 Masthead (11) both coming out of Doomben Race 8 that is due to jump at 4:20pm (AEST).

Of the 14 runners still in the mix for the middle distance sprint the favourite in BRC Sprint odds is Someday paying $4.60 to win the race from barrier one with Chris Munce in the saddle.

Locally trained by Kelso Wood the Favelon five-year-old won a trial here on Tuesday morning and looks prime to improve on their fourth behind the ‘Boom Brothers’ in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) on April 26.

We are tipping #4 Dances On Stars to win the BRC Sprint defeating #8 Someday and #12 Typhoon Red

The step up in distance should also suit as they won the Listed Brisbane Handicap over the Doomben mile back in December.

It’s then a tight affair for next best in BRC Sprint betting with Someday followed by the in-form Benny’s Buttons ($6) coming off a third in the Prime Minister’s Cup on the Gold Coast, winner of that race Dances On Stars ($6) who drops back half a kilo here and the Natalie McCall-trained River Lad ($6.50).

So are these top four the ones to lock in for all your BRC Sprint exotic selections on Saturday?

Or is there value further down the markets from an outside chance such as Rob Heathcote’s Group 1 winner Solzhenitsyn ($12) or even Toowoomba-trained gelding Typhoon Red ($17) after their third consecutive win?

1st

#4 Dances On Stars ($6)

Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzel four-year-old on the improve has been racing very handy and looks ready for another win after saluting at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago. There they handled a Heavy (8) track to take out he Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1300m) on the back for a fourth to Hot Snitzel in a Rosehill Group 3. Time between runs is perfect, distance should suit, go back from 56kg to 55.5kg here and also should get a gun run from barrier nine.

2nd

#8 Someday ($4.60)

Deserving favourite and think it will be close, just think they could get a little stuck on the inside especially if there’s more rain around before the jump as it is the last on the card and track could be choppy by then. Still Munce is no dummy and will know where to position the five-year-old to give them every hope of returning to their Brisbane Handicap winning form from the summer. Carried 58.5kg last time out in the Victory Stakes and were still beaten under three lengths by a field of Group 1 winners and so with 54kg here should be ultra-competitive.

3rd

#12 Typhoon Red ($17)

Kevin Kemp-trained gelding well up in class here after a stakes win at home but with the nice 54kg light weight think they can feature. Won at Eagle Farm over 1500m two back defeating Lady Echelon and then back home thrived to take out the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) carrying 55kg. Get in with a kilo less and going up to 1350m looks a treat.
