Cameo has failed to fire since returning to the races with a tenth place finish in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) at Warwick Farm on March 8, finishing 12th in the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1400m) on March 19 and 13th in the Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury on May 3, but relished the firm track at Scone this afternoon to score a strong win from Full Of Spirit and Loaded.

Tom Ward, the Darley stable representative, said that a return to a dry track was key to the chances of Cameo and he also paid credit to the professional ride of Sam Clipperton, who is on the verge of taking out the Sydney apprentices’ title.

“Sammy has given her another great ride and the team have done a great effort to get her where she is today,” Ward said.

“She is a lovely mare and back on top of the ground today her form is solid and we are happy with that.

“Peter has left her in great condition.”

Darley’s chances in the 2014 Scone Cup were diminished when Wistful was scratched after hitting her head on her float, but Darley Australian Managing Director Henry Plumptre said that he remained confident that his organization could take out the race.

Plumptre said that he was happy with the performance of Cameo and said that the Shamardal mare, along with Wistful, will head to Queensland for the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

“I had to ring John (O’Shea) after I had seen the stewards had scratched Wistful and I said that you are on a team now and you are lucky to two runners and the other one will probably win now,” Plumptre said after the race.

“Both these mares will probably go on to Brisbane.

“On top of the ground she is a very good mare and I think that young Sammy gave her a gem of a ride.

“She is a good mare, but she is not good enough to overcome a bad barrier and a wet track.

“Everything went right today and we are delighted.
