Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
A full field of milers is set to face off in the 2014 Scone Cup this Friday with three horses to carry the equal 58kg top weight.
Due to jump at 4:02pm as Scone Race 7, this year’s $200,000 Listed Emirates Park Scone Cup (1600m) drew 17 final acceptors with 16 of those assured of a run.
The Scone Cup weights are led by a trio of gallopers with Destiny’s Kiss, Mecir and Prince Cheri after the non-acceptance of Leebaz (59kg) who runs in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) in Brisbane on Saturday instead.
The Joe Pride-trained Destiny’s Kiss (barrier eight) looks one of the main dangers too following the Power Of Destiny gelding’s last start win.
On Anzac Day the five-year-old held off Wistful to win a Benchmark 95 over the Warwick Farm mile, form they’ll be looking to recreate here.
Mecir (barrier 13) meanwhile represents the Hawkes stable, who also prepare Leebaz, with the son of Lonhro last seen running fourth to Sistine Demon in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on April 19.
The run before they won the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1400m) however and so could have just had a bad day there that they can improve on.
Prince Cheri (barrier three) for David Vandyke also has to do plenty of improving to get back to winning form, the Kingston Town Classic champ from the spring racing for the first time since a failed eighth in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill on March 22.
Along with Destiny’s Kiss there are then two other last start winners in this year’s Scone Cup field with Collar (barrier five) and the Greg Bennett-trained Kaypers (barrier 12).
Jeremy Sylvester’s Cessnock-trained Collar has own their past two on the trot winning at Tamworth over 2100m in April before their Gunnedah Cup win over the mile just last Sunday.
Cape Cross six-year-old Kaypers meanwhile comes off a 1400m effort at Randwick from April 26 and is looking to go two better than their third behind Speediness in last year’s Scone Cup.
Other notable hopes then include the Gerald Ryan-trained eight-year-old Ironstein who ran fourth in the Group 1 The Metropolitan last season, the in-form John O’Shea-trained Wistful in gate two coming off a second to Leebaz in the Hawkesbury Cup and veteran galloper Youthful Jack to be ridden by Robert Thompson who shoots for his 4001st winner.
