Proud Miss Steeles The Show – Morphettville Race 8 Results

Michael Kent’s lightly raced filly Miss Steele relished a trip from Melbourne to South Australia today to steal the last on The Goodwood Day line-up thanks to a lovely run up the inside in the 2014 Proud Miss Stakes.

Jumping a $9 chance in the open markets for this afternoon’s $115,000 Group 3 Sportingbet Proud Miss Stakes (1200m), the striking grey daughter of Statue Of Liberty enjoyed her inside barrier one draw and the up-against-the-fence position it allowed her.

Coming off a tight win at Moonee Valley back on March 29, racing fresh today suited Miss Steele who in the end beat home fellow Victorians Octavia ($6) from the Flemington stables Michael Moroney and the David Hayes-trained race favourite Girl Guide ($5.50) who came off three straight wins back home.

Returning Danerich mare Classy Chloe was best out of the barriers in the Proud Miss today overcoming a wide gate to burn them off early and set the pace.

She led from eventual runner-up Octavia, who ran up the middle, while Jolie Blonde settled in third just ahead of $101 roughie Bella Dolce.

No other jockey wanted to take their galloper to the fence on the turn for home giving Dean Yendall the chance to save plenty of ground with the eventual winner who was hard up against the rail and leading over the final 200 metres.

Her win at the Valley was outstanding last time out, where she sat off them before weaving her way through and pulling out a smart late burst.

It was that same powerful finishing effort, and another hot tempo, that worked in Miss Steele’s favour today making her a nice chance for some Group action back home during the spring later this year.

That rounds up the action of not only The Goodwood Day but also this year’s Adelaide Racing Carnival.

Never fear however as the action is Brisbane for the winter carnival is just heating up.
