Today the 2014 Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival kicks off at Doomben Racecourse with a stellar eight race program running for BTC Cup Day.

After all the hype this week of heavy rain and a likely mud track, only a few light showers have fallen over the past couple of days and there’s only a 10 – 20% chance of more showers in Brisbane today.

As such the Doomben track conditions are perfect for a Group 1 race meet today currently a Good (3) with the rail in the true position the entire course.

Doomben Track Report

  • Rail Position: True Entire Course
  • Track Condition: Good (3)
  • Weather: Overcast
  • Penetrometer: 4.9

The action is headlined today by Race 7 at 3:40pm with a diminutive but top class field of seven left in contention for the $400,000 Group 1 Bunderberg Distilling Co. BTC Cup (1200m).

Originally there were eight final acceptors for this year’s BTC Cup field.

However Sydney’s Gerald Ryan was forced to scratch his Group 1 winning mare Snitzerland from the event after she pulled up sore in her shoulder after a gallop yesterday morning.

There are still four individual Group 1 winners in the mix including the odds-on favourite Buffering now into $1.85 to post his fourth elite level success.

The next best in BTC Cup betting at $5.50 is then recent William Reid Stakes winner Spirit Of Boom ($5.50) for fellow Brisbane-based trainer Tony Gollan.

BTC Cup Day racing meanwhile kicks off today at 12:10pm and continues through until the $80,000 Listed Bribie Handicap (1100m) at 4:20pm where two have come out of the field.

Along with the 2014 BTC Cup there are three other Group races on the program including the $175,000 Group 2 Bollinger Champagne Classic (1200m) featuring a field of 11 two-year-olds.

The other two major support races are then the $125,000 Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap (2000m) at 2:30pm followed by the $125,000 Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m).

The three other Group races all have no current withdrawals with the nice conditions ensuring good sized fields today.
