Michael Moroney’s promising four-year-old Rhythm To Spare has opened top of the RA Lee Stakes 2014 odds for The Goodwood Day feature in Adelaide this Saturday.
Scheduled to run as Morphettville Race 6 at 2:54pm (local time), this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Tapestry Shiraz RA Lee Stakes (1600m) features a field of 15 milers.
Favourite of those in the early RA Lee Stakes betting markets paying $3.60 is the widely-drawn market mover Rhythm To Spare.
Money is already coming in for the Pins gelding who has the outside barrier to overcome on Saturday, Damien Oliver booked for the ride.
Oliver took over for Glen Boss for Rhythm To Spare’s fourth run of the new year last time out on April 25 when the galloper improved on their form when stepped back in class for a 1610m handicap at Flemington.
They see the distance again for the RA Lee, the Kiwi expat’s maiden Adelaide run, with last year’s Queensland Derby fourth placegetter going back to Black Type company.
Following Rhythm To Spare in the markets at $5.50 is then local Shamardal mare Maybe Discreet for trainer Phillip Stokes.
Stokes’ talented four-year-old won the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) here around this time last year and comes off another Adelaide win when finally breaking a year long drought in the Listed City Of Adelaide Handicap (1400m) at the Parks on April 12.
The next best in betting is then $6.50 third favourite Gig out wide in barrier 12, Dwayne Dunn to ride the visiting Cranbourne-based daughter of Commands.
A close sixth when beaten under two lengths by Spirit Of Boom in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne during the autumn, Gig was last seen running sixth again this time to Driefontein in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide.
She’s got form around some nice types then with both racing at elite level this weekend: Driefontein in The Goodwood and Spirit Of Boom in the BTC Cup in Brisbane.
It’s a run Gig is tipped to improve on too with a run at the track now under her belt and with the extra distance this weekend.
Six-year-old Blevic mare Golden Penny (barrier two) who was runner-up to Maybe Discreet two back and Anthony Freedman’s last start Caulfield winner Crucial (barrier seven) then round out the single figure chances paying $7.50 each.
