Proud Miss Stakes 2014 Field Includes Girl Guide

Former Adelaide horseman David Hayes, now based in Victoria, brings over his flying filly Girl Guide to his former home state of South Australia on Saturday for a shot at the 2014 Proud Miss Stakes on The Goodwood Day.

Hayes has a strong contingent across the eight-race program at Morphettville this weekend, including his up-and-comer Girl Guide in the $115,000 Group 3 Sportingbet Proud Miss Stakes (1200m).

Rounding out the day as Race 8 at 4:10pm (local), this year’s Proud Miss Stakes field features a bumper line-up of 17 fillies and mares.

Of those just four come off a win including Churchill Downs four-year-old Girl Guide.

Lightly raced with just the five starts to her name so far, Girl Guide has an outstanding strike rate having won four times already most recently at Sandown-Hillside over 1300m in a Benchmark 84 on April 26.

She’s drawn a treat in barrier five for Saturday with Dwayne Dunn to ride as she steps up in class as one of the obvious threats in the Proud Miss 2014.

The top rated of the last start winners in the mix meanwhile is the Peter Moody-trained Kneeling who has suffered a blow drawing the outside barrier (17) for the sprint showdown.

Encosta De Lago five-year-old Kneeling was last seen running in the mud at Warrnambool to win the Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m) carrying 54kg.

Despite that good run she will have to be at her best here from the horror gate and going up to 56kg.

The other last start winners are then the Barry Dunn-trained Bella Dolce who won over 1100m at Oakbank on April 19 and Miss Steele with the rails run for Michael Kent.

Statue Of Liberty filly Miss Steele has won three from eight so far, her latest effort being over 1000m at Moonee Valley on March 29.

The top rated runner meanwhile is the Phillip Stokes-trained local Just Discreet who has also suffered a blow drawing barrier 16.

A five-year-old daughter of Exceed And Excel, Just Discreet is down in class this week having run a nice third to Driefontein and Platelet in the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) two back and then a disappointing eighth in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) on April 26.

She then has an easier assignment here looking to bounce back from her Robert Sangster failure, while Driefontein and Platelet who ran one-two again there face off for a third time in Saturday’s Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m).

Also high up the ratings are the Michael Moroney-trained Holy Roma Emperor four-year-old Octavia with barrier 12 and Damien Oliver to ride, and Lady Melksham in gate three for Geelong trainer Andrew Dillon.

Other notable hopes then include Dane Shadow mare Shade Of Green (barrier 15), and the Robbie Griffiths-trained duo of Prettyhappyaboutit and You Can Dance drawn in barriers 13 and two respectively.
