Streama Accepts for 2014 AD Hollindale Stakes Field

Brisbane Winter Carnival-bound mare Streama headlines final acceptances for the A.D. Hollindale Stakes 2014 at the Gold Coast on Saturday, the three time winner adding a touch of class to the staying showdown.

One of three Group features on the Gold Coast card, this year’s $358,000 Group 2 Wimmers Soft Drinks A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m) field features just 11 hopefuls.

Sure-to-be favourite is Guy Walter’s $2 million earning daughter of Stratum Streama who is looking to stake her claims for the upcoming Queensland Group 1s.

She enjoyed a great run in Brisbane last year, including her third in the Stradbroke Handicap, and Walter is hoping she can match it over more distance targeting this year’s $500,000 Group 1 Doomben Cup (2020m) on May 17.

But first she takes them on in the Hollindale where she races over further than a mile for the first time since her 2012 Australian Oaks win.

Streama showed Walter she was eager for more ground last start when finishing a competitive fourth behind Diamond Drille in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 16, which was a big improvement on her 17th in the mud there for the Doncaster Mile the week before.

On Saturday Streama jumps from barrier four with Blake Shinn aboard and looks a massive chance in the weight-for-age feature.

There are then two last start winners in the AD Hollindale Stakes field this year including the Chris Waller-trained Junoob.

The British import has been in flying form of late winning four of their past five starts including their past two on the trot.

Drawn out wide in nine for the weekend the Haafhd six-year-old will have Nash Rawiller in the saddle who takes over from Blake Shinn.

Two back they enjoyed a Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) win on a Dead (4) before beating home Hippopus in the Group 3 Neville Sellwood (2000m) at Rosehill on Slipper Day in the wet meaning they can handle all conditions.

Waller, who enjoyed Group 1 success last winter in Brisbane with Red Tracer in the Tattersall’s Tiara, has also accepted for Moriarty on Saturday.

The Clodovil six-year-old has barrier three and Craig Newitt riding as they look to improve on their last start fifth to their stable mate in the Neville Sellwood.

The other last start winner meanwhile is the Gerald Ryan-trained Angel Of Mercy who gets the inside run from gate one with Damian Browne in the saddle.

The Hussonet mare has been on the improve this time in progressing from a first-up forth in the Bunbury Stakes when under the tutelage of Grant Williams for her four run Perth campaign to her win at Eagle Farm in the Listed Winning Edge Members’ Handicap (1600m) on April 19.

Following her return home to Ryan in Sydney she ran a nice third behind Catkins in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) on a Heavy (8) Rosehill track and then won in Brisbane before her Gold Coast trip this weekend.

The other interesting edition to the AD Hollindale Stakes field is then Shaune Ritchie’s New Zealand raider Military Move making their Australian debut.

An evergreen Volksraad seven-year-old, last year’s Manawatu Cup winner earned a shot in Queensland this winter after their second to Soriano last time out in the Group 2 Awapuni Cup (2000m).
