Likely Hawkesbury Guineas 2014 Back-Up for Estonian Princess

Sydney horseman Scott Aspery is almost certain to back his smart young filly Estonian Princess up this Saturday in the 2014 Hawkesbury Guineas after she’s come through her win last weekend in top order.

The improving daughter of Snitzel was back to winning form at Randwick last weekend with her narrow win over Northern Glory in the Group 3 JHB Carr Stakes (1400m).

The run before she failed when seventh to Arabian Gold in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes in the wet, jockey Hugh Bowman reporting she just didn’t run out a strong 2000m when seeing the distance for the first time.

Stepping back down to 1400m then last weekend worked a treat, Brenton Avdulla guiding her from a last-to-first win where she had just a nose to spare after making up lots of ground over the final 150m.

Now she’s eyeing another Group 3 assignment over the same distance in this Saturday’s $150,000 Group 3 Blacktown Workers Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m), the filly a “99 per cent chance” of running.

It’ll be a seven day turnaround for Estonian Princess if Aspery does accept for her in the Guineas, but at this stage the Warwick Farm-based trainer hasn’t seen any reason not to give her a shot at more Black Type glory.

“She is terrific,” Aspery told The Daily Telegraph on Monday night.

“Straight after the race on Saturday, she pulled up so well it was like she was ready to go again, and she ate up that night.

“She is just a tough filly, thriving on racing, and I’d say she is a 99 per cent chance of being there on Saturday.”

There’s plenty of talent among the Hawkesbury Guineas 2014 nominations too with other notable hopes including in-form Kiwi raider Beauty’s Beast coming off a win in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) at Randwick and fellow New Zealand-trained galloper Katie’s Cove.
