Triple Group 1 winning mare Streama is the headline nominee for the A.D. Hollindale Stakes 2014 at the Gold Coast this weekend, the Guy Walter-trained champ making the trip to Queensland to chase some early winter riches.
One of the opening features of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, the $358,000 Group 2 AD Hollindale Stakes (1800m) runs this Saturday alongside two other Group races.
AD Hollindale Stakes nominations have however been extended until 9am tomorrow morning after drawing only 12 early entries.
Among those, Stratum five-year-old Streama stands out with the Sydney-based multi-million dollar earner making her Queensland debut if accepted.
Looking to break a seven month drought, Streama hasn’t won a race since her third elite level when narrowly holding off Royal Descent in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick last September.
She was last seen running an improved fourth though behind upset winner Diamond Drille on April 19 in the Group 1 Queen OF The Turf Stakes (1600m), an effort she’s sure to improve on when stepping down in class for the Hollindale.
There are a host of interstate raiders saturating the AD Hollindale entries this year too including two from the stables of Chris Waller.
Waller has nominated for last start Group 3 Sellwood Stakes winner Junoob who has won four of their past five starts and Moriarty coming off a fifth to their stable mate in the April 5 race.
Also from Sydney is the Gerald Ryan-trained Hussonet mare Angel Mercy, also a last start winner following her Listed win at Eagle Farm over the mile two weeks ago.
Five-year-old Angel Mercy ran third to Catkins in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) in the wet at Rosehill on Slipper Day before relishing a firmer track (Good 3) in Brisbane for their Listed Winning Edge Member’s Handicap (1600m) victory.
Also coming via the Members’ Handicap are runner-up Lady Echelon and third placed Tracey’s Angel.
The Natalie Mccall-trained Top Echelon mare Lady Echelon, hailing from the Sunshine Coast, is looking to break a frustrating run of second place finishes having finished runner-up in her past three starts.
Locally-trained Gold Coast galloper Tracey’s Angel meanwhile has also racked up a string of minor placings this time in which she’ll be looking to better stepping up in class for the Hollindale.
Other interstate raiders then include the Bart & James Cummings-trained veteran stayer Precedence who hasn’t raced since the Sandown Classic last November and Doncaster Mile failure (15th) Fat Al for Peter Moody who won the AD Hollindale Stakes last year with Lights Of Heaven.
As for other Queensland-trained hopes they include the Barry Baldwin-trained Members’ Handicap fourth placed Flying Home and Brian Smith’s seven-year-old Grey Assignment.
See below for the current AD Hollindale Stakes 2014 nominations, the final field due for release on Wednesday.
