Weary In Top Condition Ahead of All Aged Stakes

Representative of trainer Chris Waller’s Sydney stables, Peter Muscatt is confident talented four-year-old Weary will break through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in this afternoon’s Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick after pulling up in perfect order following his hard-fought run for third in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile last time out.

Having used the last fortnight to keep the classy Astronomer Royal gelding happy and content, Muscatt told TVN he sees no issue in a return to 1400 metres for Weary the first time since finishing third in a minor event over the distance first-up on February 15th.

“I don’t think it’s a major issue” Muscatt said of the drop is distance.

“He’s a tough horse and he had freshened-up really well.

“I see him running a big race.

“He’s had two weeks to freshen for this race and he seems to be ideal.”

Securing an impressive total of three wins and five places from 12 race starts to date, Weary was unlucky not to break through for a victory at Group level in his native France prior to arriving in the care of Waller at the conclusion of his 2013 campaign.

Finishing second to Messene in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) on March 22nd, the gelding out of America Nova broke through for a maiden victory in Australian in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) on April 5th, prior to his impressive run on a less-than-ideal rain-soaked Randwick track last time out.

Allocated the unfortunate and wide barrier 11 for the 2014 All Aged Stakes, Weary is currently featured a sole occupant of the second line of betting for today’s feature race at Randwick, at a quote of $5.50.

Unlucky to finish second to the world’s leading sprinter Lankan Rupee in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) last time out, Rebel Dane is clear favourite and undoubtable market mover for success in the 2014 All Aged Stakes at short $2.10 odds.

Interestingly registering as the only other All Aged Stakes acceptor offered at odds of less-than $10, Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) champion Tiger Tees can be taken at a generous price of $8.50.
