Steps In Time Withdrawn From 2014 All Aged Stakes Field

Talented mare Steps In Time has been withdrawn from the 2014 All Aged Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday after being found with a bruised hind heel this morning.

Steps In Time scored her maiden win at Group 1 level in the Coolmore Classic during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Steps In Time was one of the best backed runners in 2014 All Aged Stakes betting markets and was the likely leader of the race, but Pride told Sky Racing HQ that he would not run such a valuable broodmare prospect if she was not at full fitness.

“She has bruising on a hind heel,” Pride said.

“She is just not comfortable enough this morning and we are not going to risk a mare of her value when she is not 100 percent.

“We noticed it this morning with her heel up in the air and I’m not sure if she maybe stood on something and it doesn’t look like an abscess.”

Steps In Time increased her value as a broodmare substantially when she won the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22 and the daughter of Danehill Dancer is set to be retired at the end of the racing season.

Pride refused to confirm whether Steps In Time had raced for the last time in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on April 12 and did not rule out a potential trip to Queensland for the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

“No decision has been made,” Pride said.

“Obviously the Brisbane carnival is upcoming, but no decision has been made and we will sit down with the guys and have a chat.

“She achieved the goal that we really wanted to get with her in winning the Coolmore, but we are still a fair way off the breeding season.”

The withdrawal of Steps In Time has made Rebel Dane a dominant favourite in 2014 All Aged Stakes betting markets and the son of California Dane is now available at All Aged Stakes odds of $2.10 from Weary ($5.50), Tiger Tees ($8.50) and Hana’s Goal ($1).
