2014 All Aged Stakes Results – Hana’s Goal Wins Maiden Group 1

Japanese mare Hana’s Goal came from the back of the field to record a most impressive victory in the 2014 All Aged Stakes at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Hana's Goal gave the Japanese another Group 1 victory in Australia with an outstanding performance in the 2014 All Aged Stakes.

Hana’s Goal was slow out of the gates and was settled at the tail of the field by jockey Nash Rawiller and the in-form hoop rode the Orewa Matteruze extremely patiently throughout the race.

The talented mare was still at the tail of the field at the 200 metre mark, but absolutely exploded when asked for an extra effort and ran away from the rest of the field to score an outstanding win from imported galloper Weary and the consistent Tiger Tees.

“That was probably the best that she has jumped today, but I brought her straight back underneath me and from that wide of a gate I didn’t want her to be overdoing it early,” Rawiller said.

“I was a little bit concerned that Weary took me back a little bit further than I wanted, that seems to be happening to me lately, but I just sort of bit the bullet and took a sit on his back and he gave me a good enough cart into the race and I knew that with her finish she could take care of most of these.

“It was a very good win and she has probably just adjusted a bit; she has run in two of our hardest races and it is not easy to come out from the other side of the world and run in the Doncaster.

“Today in the small field she had a few things that suited her and she just showed her class and that is what she has plenty of.”

Owner Michael Tabert was not at Royal Randwick due to other commitments in Japan, but his father Laurie Tabert was on hand to celebrate the victory.

The senior Tabert said that Michael often missed his horses biggest victories, but said that his son would be delighted with the performance of the classy mare.

“He has a history of not being there when his horses win and this is to continue the tale,” Tabert said.

“This was a big gamble, it was a big decision to make and I must pay tribute to Ian McKay and the ATC because they made it possible.”

Well-backed favourite Rebel Dane was trapped wide and over raced in the early stages of the race and tired to finish in the second half of the field.
