Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Rounding out a cracker eight race program in Adelaide this Saturday is the 2014 DC McKay Stakes featuring a quality field of local and interstate sprinters.
Running as Morphettville Race 8 at 4:25pm (local), this year’s $115,000 Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m) features 13 hopefuls.
It’s a top line-up too including a duo of last start winners looking to continue their luck in the South Australian Black-Type.
The first of those is the Darren Weir-trained Siwa Lady (barrier 10) who has won her past three on the trot.
The Gonski mare was a Moonee Valley winner over 955m in mid-March defeating Brilliant Bisc before making it two on the trot at the course a fortnight later.
She then travelled to Oakbank last Saturday and caught the eye with a length victory in the Listed Oakbank Stakes (1100m) with Joe Bowditch aboard.
On the short back-up here Siwa Lady shoots for successive stakes wins on the weekend then, a jockey change seeing Daniel Stackhouse take the saddle for the Group 3.
The other hopeful out to continue a winning streak is then the Anthony Freedman-trained Minaj drawn one inside of Siwa Lady with barrier nine.
A winner of five of her nine starts to date, Commands filly Minaj was stepped up to Group 1 company two back at Caulfield but could only manage to finish 10th to Lankan Rupee in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) even with her 50kg light weight.
Last start she returned to form against an easier class of rivals in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1050m) a fortnight ago, a run she’ll be looking to repeat here.
Heading the DC McKay Stakes field and weights with 60kg meanwhile is the Gary Kennewell-trained Conservatorium.
Drawn in gate three with Craig Williams riding, six-year-old Royal Academy Conservatorium won two Group races in Perth during the summer, with a Group 1 Railway Stakes eighth in between, before heading out for a spell.
The veteran returned on April 12 in the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) and could only manage to run eighth, an effort they’ll be out to improve on second-up on Saturday.
Following Conservatorium in the weights is then the Robbie Griffiths-trained five-year-old It Is Written with 56.5kg out to atone for a dead last behind Spirit Of Boom in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley last month.
The only others in the mix over the 54kg minimum are then rising nine-year-old Esprit De Bullet (56kg) with the rails run and Richard Jolly’s X’Mas Stakes winner Karacatis in gate seven with Dwayne Dunn to ride.
Other notable hopes include Hyam’s other runner Almighty Bullet who won at the track two back, Mick Price’s returning four-year-old General Peekay who won the Nitschke – Adelaide Guineas double last year, and the Leon MacDonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained duo of Essay Raider and Nearest To Pin.
Bernardini four-year-old Essay Raider has been in top form since the spring with some ace form including a Boxing Day Adelaide win, a second in the Group 3 Standish Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on New Year’s Day and then their last start fourth in the RN Irwin.
Nearest To Pin is also ultra-consistent having run top three in all three of their runs this time in, the Golden Lake four-year-old up in class here after a third last time out at Caulfield behind Natuzzi.
