Despite keeping the talented three-year-old at home when the $4 million Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) was contested at Royal Randwick last weekend, trainer David Vandyke has revealed Arabian Gold will line up for this weekend’s Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) on excellent condition.
Contesting and winning the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) in week 1 of The Championships at Randwick two weeks ago, Vandyke told AAP the Dubawi filly had felt the effects of carry heavy weights to victory and required a week off to return to prime form.
“The effort told on her and she definitely needed the week off” Vandyke said.
“She had bounced back now and the extra week has helped.
Delivering jockey Blake Shinn his 1000th career victory in the Adrian Knox Stakes last time out, Vandyke confirmed champion rider Damien Oliver will take to the saddle of Arabian Gold in the Frank Packer Plate.
“Damien Oliver will ride her and she drops in weight to 54.5kgs, so that also helps” Vandyke said.
Contesting an impressive total of six wins and two places from only fifteen competitive race starts to date, Arabian Gold completed a particularly strong and consistent 2013 spring preparation, scoring four wins and two places and running an unlucky fourth in the Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m) most notably.
Returning to the track in similarly competitive form this time in, the filly out of Coablo finishing fifth in the hotly-contested Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) first-up, and while less-than-convincing in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) and Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1600m), returned to peak condition upon contesting the Adrian Knox at her pet distance of 2000 metres.
