I’m Imposing Among 2014 JRA Plate Nominations

Chris Waller’s Group 3 winning import I’m Imposing is one of the trainer’s five JRA Plate 2014 nominees for the Royal Randwickshowdown this weekend.

Waller has nominated for five from his in-form stables, his contingent dominating the early entries for this Saturday’s $150,000 Group 3 Japan Racing Association Plate (2000m).

A nice race for the season’s lower-tiered stayers, there are 19 JRA Plate nominations this year.

One of Waller’s top entries is I’m Imposing, the veteran Danehill Dancer eight-year-old to run second-up if accepted following a third behind their stable mate Weary when resuming in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) in the mud at Rosehill on April 5.

Waller’s other more notable hopes include fellow warhorses Permit and Whipper seven-year-old Wazn.

Also seven, Permit enjoyed back-to-back wins in the Summer, most recently the Tatts Cup over 2400m on New Year’s Day at Randwick, before breaking down when eighth in the Parramatta Cup (1900m) last month.

Wazn also needs to atone for their latest run having failed to let down in the wet when 13th to Weary in the Doncaster Prelude from Golden Slipper Day.

Also with multiple entries is Sydney’s other premier trainer Gai Waterhouse.

Waterhouse has French import Tres Blue and High Chaparral mare Vaquera in the mix.

Anabaa Blue four-year-old Tres Blue has failed in both their Australian starts so far when 22nd in last year’s Melbourne Cup before returning with a 13th to Gordon Lord Byron in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) on March 29.

They’ll appreciate the extra distance on Saturday though and also the step back in class here.

Melbourne’s top horseman Peter Moody is also represented in this year’s JRA Plate nominations with his Doncaster failure (15th) Fat Al who is equal 59kg top weight along with Permit and Tres Blue, and Strawberry Boy.

Other notable hopes then include former Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday and the John Sargent-trained Iggi Pop.
