Gerald Ryan has nominated his always honest gelding Hot Snitzel for a second-up run in the Hall Mark Stakes 2014 at Royal Randwick this Saturday over the ANZAC Day long weekend.
The five-year-old son of Snitzel is one of 14 gallopers in the mix for this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) which is one of the major support races on the dual Group 1 program.
The former Group 1 placed juvenile has had just the one run this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival when resuming off a four and a half month break in the Group 3 Sebring Stakes (1200m) in the wet on Slipper Day.
There they caught the eye after getting a gun spot early before coming within a long neck of the winner Flamberge in an effort they’ll be looking to improve on with a firmer track for the weekend.
Also coming via a credible Sebring Stakes run is the Grahame Begg-trained General Nediym mare Bennetta, the four-year-old having run third first-up when running on well on the Heavy (8) course.
Dominating the Hall Mark Stakes nominations numbers-wise meanwhile are trainers Joe Pride, Chris Waller and Peter Snowden with two entries each.
Pride has nominated for Danzero seven-year-old See The World down in class after two Group 1 runs and up-and-coming Flying Spur four-year-old That’s A Good Idea.
See The World was seventh two back behind stable mate Tiger Tees in The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill before their good run on a Heavy Randwick track on April 12 when fifth behind the flying Lankan Rupee in the TJ Smith Stakes.
Waller then could be represented in the field by his O’Reilly gelding Said Com and the imported Masthead who debuts down, the Singapore sprinter’s most recent run being a fifth in the Goodwill Stakes from November last year when ridden by Tommy Berry.
Another top entry that would be first-up here if accepted is then the Peter Snowden-trained Emblems who won three on the trot last prep.
The four-year-old Shamardal stallion saw their first Black Type field last start at Gosford on January 10 when winning the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) to give them a 50% winning strike rate.
Snowden’s other representative is then fellow four-year-old Knoydart, the son of More Than Ready coming off two Group 1 thirds behind Lankan Rupee in Melbourne’s Oakleigh Plate and Newmarket Handicap.
